Migrating my blog from Write.as to Bearblog

Hey friends, in a previous post, I mentioned I was migrating my blog, ldstephens, from Write.as to Bearblog.dev. I'm happy to report that the migration is now complete! Here are some tips that made the process much smoother.

I used my M1 MacBook Air for the heavy lifting, with my 11-inch M2 iPad Air by my side. The key to this setup was Universal Control, which allowed me to seamlessly work between the devices.

On my MacBook Air, I had the Bearblog post dashboard and Write.as open in separate Safari tabs. Here's the time-saving trick: I used the PopClip extension Copy as Markdown. This allowed me to easily copy each Write.as post in Markdown format and paste it directly into a new Bearblog post.

On my iPad, I kept an archive document with a list of all my Write.as posts. As I migrated each post, I checked it off in the archive to ensure I didn't miss anything.

The biggest advantage of using PopClip's Copy as Markdown extension was that Bearblog natively uses Markdown. This meant I didn't have to worry about any messy formatting conversions during the migration process.
